Dinkytown Highway

A ribbon of black, two yellow lines, blown tires, and squashed bottle caps. 100 degrees in summer and 30 below in winter. When you find Dinkytown or when Dinkytown finds you, you know it. The route to and from a place both real and imagined. The sidewalks, streetlamps, and storefronts know you. We have all walked these streets. You face a stranger here who shares your name. The road ahead is, oddly, the road behind. You follow the signs and can’t turn back. Every companion, vista, and song on the radio reminds you it is, after all, mostly about the trip.

“I like it! It’s ‘altronica country’, very cool.” -Kevin Bowe (& the Okemah Prophets)
